I was delighted and dismayed today by both the recognition by the new Administration about our failing middle class and it's solution to it, and the lack of media coverage, even by someone I thought would be all jazzed by it:
Why? Because it's "Infrastructure - BABY!" She thinks infrastructure is sexy, and so do I. Ok, I'm weird.
More after the bump...
Now you are probably wondering what I'm talking about, because there is no coverage whatsoever on most news. What I'm talking about is the Middle Class Task Force, headed by VP Biden, whose goal is to create a stronger middle class during this economic time of trouble. It's a huge task, and the most important way to do this is to create a number of new jobs based on green technologies. This includes everything from creating a smart grid in this country, to training people to weatherize homes, to training people in how to install solar panels, to planting and maintaining community and urban gardens. It's all about JOBS. Green Jobs! Here. They can't be outsourced! It's high time!
I like it! You can visit with V.P. Biden here.
Van Jones, founder and creator of Green for All, and author of the "Green Collar Economy" was present at the panel on Friday, as was our brand new shiny Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, and Energy Secretary Steven Chu, the head of the Environmental Defense Fund, Fredd Krupp, a number of Mayors, Governors and Congress Critters to discuss this new task force and present ideas on how to implement it. Unfortunately, there is no video of this event so far, but you can read Jo Biden's (he even said if he mispronounced any of the attendees names, that they had permission to call him "Bidden") opening comments here. This is exactly what I've been hoping for.
Green For All produced this video, and this is what it is all about!
There are number of these hopeful stories here.
This is very positive and constructive stuff and we desperately need this in our country for so many different reasons: to address our energy problems, to improve our health, to address global warming, to revitalize our communities, to lift people out of poverty, to improve people's lives. I'm would love to have feedback on this!
